Vancouver Fashion Week
For Vancouver Fashion Week, we sent our buddy Jojo over, which was a great experience for her considering she’s never been to any type of fashion event before. Vancouver Fashion Week has built itself to be one of Canada’s best fashion weeks with a large international representation of fashion designers and media coverage. Jojo was only able to go for one night, but the show was packed full of designers. The designers for the night were emerging and established Canadian designers. According to www.vanfashionweek.com the designers for the night are: Andrea Hilbrecht, Wilber Tellez, Brittany Wacher (all three are from LaSalle College), Liuba Palanciuc, Melissa Squire, Queenie Luo, Sarah Runnalls, Pouneh Askarian, Tanya Min Jee Ellis, Mackenzie Sam, Elen Danielle, and Story of a Girl and Blushing Designs by Shelley Klassen.
We’ll have to let you know more specifics later, but Jojo is in Hong Kong currently on an adventure. When she returns, we’ll add the designers who correspond to our pictures. Below are our favorite outfits from Vancouver Fashion Week:
The picture below is blurry, but I really enjoy the colours and fabric used in the outfits.
As we’ve grown into the fashion community the biggest shocker I learned was that the community is surprisingly welcome and friendly. I’ve rarely experienced snobbery or elitism, as often stereotyped with fashion, but the Vancouver and Calgary fashion communities have been amazingly supportive and encouraging. It’s funny that the rare occurrences of snobbery have been from individuals who aren’t proactive in the fashion community (their only involvement is by attending events and trying to look cool). To all individuals who are searching how to get involved in the rapidly growing fashion community of Vancouver or Calgary: be friendly, encouraging, and honest! It’ll take you very far, and the community is very open to newcomers and people searching how to get involved.
